In most cases it is best to go to the emergency room if your condition worsens within a couple of hours post accident. If your symptoms are not that severe, it may help to apply ice to injuries in order to minimize swelling and inflammation. Visit our office as soon as possible, and try not to physically exert yourself. Often, musculoskeletal pain doesn’t set in until days or even weeks after an accident. So get to your chiropractor’s office as soon as possible just to make sure you are informed if there is anything you can do to better facilitate the healing process.
Your initial appointment will consist of an comprehensive examination and a review of your medical history, including any injuries you may have sustained in your accident. You may then be x-rayed to check for spinal subluxations or injuries that may or may not have begun causing pain or muscle stiffness. Your chiropractor will develop a treatment plan for you based on the results of your exam. It is likely to include frequent spinal adjustments and possibly some physio-therapy or spinal decompression. Your chiropractor believes that active therapy along with passive therapy, massage and acupuncture will all help you to quickly recover from the pain you are experiencing.
Unless your lawyer has experience in treating your injuries we suggest you contact us first and worry about the lawyer after you’re feeling better and find the right lawyer to handle your case if needed.
An automobile accident can cause severe pain and sometimes leave you on bed rest for days or weeks, or it could leave you with little to no discomfort at all. Regardless of how mild or severe your injuries or symptoms may be, it is important to consult with your chiropractor and seek treatment immediately following an auto collision. Broadway chiropractic treatment is effective for relieving pain, muscle stiffness, whiplash, and misalignment caused by collisions. In fact studies show that early treatment typically yields the fastest recovery time, because treatment is administered before the body has the opportunity to isolate injuries or accumulate scar tissue.
- Acupuncture stimulates the balance and flow of Qi energy that in Traditional Chinese Medicine is considered essential to health. When the body is healthy, Qi (pronounced chee), flows smoothly through the meridians that make up a conceptual network of pathways throughout the entire body. When the balance or flow of Qi is deficient or obstructed it may be diseased or susceptible to illness. Acupuncture treats both the symptoms and the root causes of the patient’s illness.
- Acupuncture is an ancient alternative to western medicine and, in some cases, surgery. It stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain-relieving neurohormones through the insertion of needles into specific anatomical points (acupuncture points) to encourage natural healing. Therapeutic effects include:
- Pain relief
- Increased energy
- Improved mood
- Improved body function
- Atraumatic acupuncture needles are rounded at the tip so that they slide smoothly through tissue and are unlikely to cause bleeding. Needles are left in place for 15 to 30 minutes during which time the practitioner may manipulate the needles in order to strengthen or reduce the flow of Qi. Electrical or laser stimulation may also be used.
Massage therapy involves the manual mobilization of muscles, soft tissues, tendons and ligaments to enhance a person’s and well being. Most patients get a massage to relax, reduce stress, and relieve muscle soreness.
Every therapist uses a different method or techinique, but all therapists use their hands during the massage. They will occasionally use their forearms and elbows to administer a deep tissue massage.
The type of massage you get will be prescribed by Dr. Malakian and designed to your personal needs. While some massage therapists can offer many types of massages at spas or massage parlors, our office requires certification to perform specific types of massages because the massage has a specific purpose as explained below.
Swedish massage. The most common type of massage today, is aimed to relax your muscles. The massage therapist applies pressure to your muscles and rubs in the same direction as your blood flows. The therapist stimulates the blood in the area by using their hands, fingers, forearms or elbows to knead, stroke, vibrate and tap the area.
Trigger point. This type of massage pinpoints areas that tend to radiate pain beyond the pain site. The therapist applies pressure to the area where the pain is strong, from a few seconds to a few minutes.
Deep tissue massage. The therapist massages the area with deep pressure to untangle knots and tension from stress and discomfort.
Shiatsu. This massage originated in Japan. The therapist uses his or her thumbs, fingers and palms on the main acupressure points.
Back pain, being the most common type of conditions we treat, requires your chiropractor to identify the cause of your pain and determine if it is related to posture, weight, stress, or the result of a car accident or other injury. You may be advised to visit periodically for spinal manipulation, spinal decompression, laser treatment, theraputic exercises, massages, acupuncture and other state of the art modalities we have in our office. The duration of your treatment will depend on how severe your back is and how well you respond to treatment which is designed to relieve pain, muscle tightness and joint immobility.
Yes. Your other options are to see your primary doctor who will prescribe medication or perhaps refer you to a surgeon. Most people in this day and age would prefer the holistic approach to common back pain.
Dr. Malakian will perform a cervical manipulation technique. This is a manual procedure that is capable of delivering instant results. Most patients experience relief for chronic neck pain, as well as muscle stiffness. You may hear an audible popping as your chiropractor completes the cervical adjustment, but don’t be alarmed as this is very common and the treatment is not likely to be painful.
Yes. Contrary to what most medical doctors will tell you, Chiropractors are experts in pain relief and safe manipulation of the musculoskeletal frame. Chiropractic treatments are always the least invasive, and no toxins are included in the treatments, so it makes sense to try those before pursuing more aggressive treatments. If your neck pain cannot be treated with chiropractic or acupuncture care, we will refer you to a specialist who can help you should you require further care.

Dr. Malakian will first examine your knee for signs of swelling and may order x-rays or other imaging to aid in the diagnostic process. If your knee is inflamed, you may need to rest it and ice it until swelling subsides. Once she determines the cause of your pain she may restore mobility to your knee and she may recommend massage and physio therapy to alleviate pain and restore function to the joint.
